AIR QUALITY MONITORING
Air quality monitoring is one of the primary duties of the agency.
RAPCA operates and maintains 15 air monitors at 12 locations. Please visit our air quality page for more information.
AIR POLLUTION FORECASTING
RAPCA provides daily air pollution forecasts, including air pollution advisory notifications anytime air pollution levels are expected to rise to unhealthy levels. Air pollution forecast are available here, or you can sign up for U.S. EPA's EnviroFlash email/pager notification system to have forecasts sent directly to you. Its free and easy to use.
POLLEN AND MOLD REPORTS
In addition to the 15 air quality monitors, RAPCA operates a pollen and mold sampler at the downtown Dayton library. Visit our pollen and mold page to view daily pollen and mold readings, or sign up for the National Allergy Bureau's email notification service, which uses our data.
INDOOR AIR QUALITY PROGRAM
RAPCA's indoor air quality program is a multi-facetted program which includes indoor air quality, radon, and asbestos. RAPCA performs asbestos inspections at construction and demolition sites to ensure proper asbestos removal and containment. RAPCA also does extensive work to educate the public about the dangers of poor indoor air quality, including radon. Click here for more information about RAPCA's indoor air quality program.
FIELD WORK AND ENFORCEMENT PROGRAM
The primary objective of RAPCA's Enforcement Program is to establish a fair application of federal, state and local air pollution control regulations. We accomplish this through a variety of formal and field activities that require close interaction with local industry and citizens. Our enforcement responsibilities are designed to identify and remedy violations of air pollution control regulations, and to oversee current facility operations to prevent future episodes of air pollution control violations.
FACILITY INSPECTION PROGRAM
RAPCA's facility inspection program is responsible for inspecting industrial sources of air pollution for compliance with applicable federal, state and local air pollution control regulations. Once a facility receives an air permit, facilities are inspected based on the size and type of facility, plant
location, complaints generated, and type and severity of the pollution problems.
INDUSTRIAL PERMIT PROGRAM
RAPCA's industrial permit program is centered on the State of Ohio air pollution permit system. Each potential source of air pollution is required to obtain an approved Ohio air pollution permit. Qualification for a permit requires a company to demonstrate that a source is operating in compliance with all rules and not emitting excess air contaminants.
